Victorian Miniature Cased Ambrotype Portrait Circa 1855
This beautiful portrait is an original miniature Ambrotype, one of the earliest successful photographic methods used, with a glass plate to capture images. Each Ambrotype is a unique, one-of-a-kind object. This specific pocket-sized example really captures the elegance of this Victorian lady, which has been preserved for over 160 in its little travel case.
The image is set behind glass and framed by a gilt metal fancy border. The detailing remains crisp. The case leather bound folding case with gold leaf patterns along the edges. The interior is layered and has a protective pad and it has a functional brass clasp on the outside for when closed.
Circa 1855-1860
It measures 4.5cm x 5cm (closed).
Condition: Very good antique condition. The image remains very clear with no fading, and the leather case shows minimal signs of age-related wear. Please see the photographs.
