Antique Victorian Cased Meerschaum Pipe dated 1890-1910
A stunning example of Victorian craftsmanship and "Gentleman’s Library" style. This antique pipe features a bold "Dragon Claw" design, meticulously carved from a single block of meerschaum. Over a century of use has seasoned the bowl, turning it from its original white to a magnificent, deep honey-brown patina that collectors crave.
The scaly detail of the claw is incredibly lifelike, providing a tactile and visually striking grip for the bowl. It is finished with a translucent, glowing amber stem that remains in excellent condition. Owning a cased meerschaum pipe was a mark of status in the late 19th century, and finding one with such uniform colouring and its original fitted case is a rare treat.
It dates to 1890-1910.
Materials are block meerschaum, genuine amber and leather/velvet case.
It measures 10.5cm approximately.
Condition: Excellent antique condition. The meerschaum has a rich, even patina; the amber stem is intact, and the original case latches securely.
