Georgian Miniature Apprentice Piece Bureau Circa 1780-1800
A rare and beautiful scaled miniature of a George III bureau, dating to circa 1780-1800. Often created an "Apprentice Piece," these small-scale masterpieces were designed to prove a craftsman's skill in handling complex joinery and fine veneers before they could become a Master Cabinetmaker.
This example is crafted in highly-prized burr walnut, a wood celebrated for its dramatic, swirling grain and warm, mellow character.
The bureau features exquisite Sheraton-style shell marquetry inlays to the fall-front, set against the burr walnut. The exterior is adorned with traditional bun feet and handles. The fall-front opens to reveal a stepped interior, complete with hand-fitted pigeonholes and below are detailed miniature drawers.
It measures - 27cm x 33cm x 13cm
Circa - 1780-1800.
Condition is very good antique condition. The wood retains a deep, lustrous patina with minor age-related wear and tear, consistent with a cherished collector's piece of over 200 years. Please study the photographs as they form part of the description.
Due to the delicate nature of this item, it is collection only.
