A magnificent, heavy-gauge bronze commemorative medal celebrating the birth of the Dauphin in 1781. This was a moment of rare national celebration for the French Monarchy, capturing King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette in exquisite, high-relief detail. Designed by the celebrated Benjamin Duvivier (signed Du Vivier F.) the King's personal medalist, this piece is a triumph of 18th-century portraiture. The obverse features a sharp profile of Louis XVI, while the reverse depicts Marie Antoinette in her iconic feathered headdress and fleurs-de-lis robes.
